We were all sad to say goodbye to the lovely Hoi An Boutique Resort. Another day just lounging by the pool would have been great!!
We were on our way North to Hue this morning. We drove back through Da Nang, the city that we flew into two days ago. Da Nang is located along the South China Sea and it is known as the entertainment capital of Vietnam. It has a very different feel to it and it is really growing. There was new construction everywhere. Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend anytime in Da Nang. Maybe next time!
We stopped along the way at a marble factory where they had thousands of marble statues, some as high as twenty feet! They were beautiful but a little heavy to bring home in the suitcase! 😏
We also drove through a ten kilometre tunnel, which saved us several hours of driving. It would have been nice to go up over the mountain pass but it also would have really cut into our day.
We arrived in Hue at 11:30 and checked into our amazing hotel. We felt a bit like royalty when we saw our huge rooms, adorned with fresh fruit and flowers. Too bad we are only hear for one night.
After checking in we hopped back on the bus for a city tour. We visited the Thien Mu Pagoda, Vietnam's tallest religious building. Then we had a boat cruise down the Perfume a River and we really enjoyed the breeze! Then we visited the walled fortress of the Imperial City. It is huge, over 500 hectares, and it was mostly destroyed in the war so now they are working on restoring it.
From there most of us got onto bicycle rickshaws to go back to the hotel. It was a fun but hair raising experience as we wove our way through the thousands of scooters and cars, plus the narrow market with people everywhere! What an adventure! The good news is, we all made it to the hotel in one piece!
We were on our own for dinner so we enjoyed a lovely meal in the garden restaurant at our hotel. Excellent food in a lovely setting for a very reasonable price! Can't get much better than that!!!
